Toxicology

Giftkunde is the German word for toxicology (Greek: toxikon= arrow poison and logos=teaching). Toxicology sees itself as the study of toxins, poisoning and the treatment of poisoning.

As an interdisciplinary subject, it is affiliated with pharmacology. The field of activity of toxicology overlaps with biochemistry, as the molecular basis of poisoning is being researched. Many chemists and biochemists are therefore also employed as toxicologists.
